BRCA Testing in Denmark: Surgical Impact and Survival

In this MEDtalk, Aleksandar Kostov, MD, PhD, presents findings from his PhD thesis using nationwide Danish data on BRCA testing in women with breast cancer (2000–2017). The analysis focuses on testing patterns, surgical management, and survival. Timely BRCA testing was associated with increased uptake of risk-reducing mastectomy and improved outcomes, while poorer prognosis among carriers appeared largely driven by tumor characteristics. The PhD thesis originated from the Department of Pathology, Zealand University Hospital, Roskilde, and is based on data from the Danish Breast Cancer Group (DBCG) database on hereditary breast cancer.
