AD/PD 2026: Basal Tear Fluid Biomarkers in Dementia

Hannah Wandall from the Danish Dementia Research Centre, Copenhagen University Hospital Rigshospitalet, Denmark, presents a study evaluating basal tear fluid as a potential diagnostic source in dementia. Using an ultra-sensitive immunoassay platform, the study detected p-tau isoforms in tear fluid, while no clear differences were observed for amyloid beta pathology. The findings were presented at the AD/PD 2026 Conference, where she also discussed the potential of tear fluid as a minimally invasive biomarker source.
