EAN 2025: Shared Neural Mechanism for Photophobia in Migraine and Post-Traumatic Headache
In this MEDtalk, Dr. Rune Häckert Christensen, MD, PhD Fellow at the Danish Headache Center, presents fMRI data showing that photophobia in both migraine and post-traumatic headache is linked to hyperactivation in the anterior cingulate cortex and insula. These pain-related regions respond abnormally to light during attacks, suggesting a shared neural mechanism. The findings provide objective evidence of photophobia and may point to a broader multisensory processing dysfunction in headache disorders.
